KARACHI – The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has officially implemented a new grading system, significantly increasing the minimum threshold required to pass examinations. According to a notification issued by the board, the passing marks ratio has been raised from 33% to 40%. This change aims to align the provincial assessment standards with modern educational benchmarks.
New Passing Criteria Breakdown In the updated policy, for a 100-mark paper, the minimum passing marks have been increased from 33 to 40. For a 75-mark paper, the requirement has moved from 25 to 30. Similarly, the passing marks for a 45-mark practical examination have been raised from 15 to 18.
Implementation Timeline The BSEK has clarified that the new grading system is effective immediately for Class 9 (SSC Part-I). However, for Class 10 (SSC Part-II), the new system will be formally implemented starting from the 2027 academic session.
