Ex-KE Employee Challenges Governor’s Decision to Quash Harassment Conviction

KARACHI: Mehreen Aziz Khan, a former employee of K-Electric, has approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) to challenge Governor Sindh’s decision to overturn the conviction of the company’s former CEO in a high-profile workplace harassment case.

Case Background: The Provincial Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment at the Workplace had previously found the former CEO, Moonis Alvi, guilty of harassment. The Ombudsman had ordered his removal from office and imposed a fine of Rs. 2.5 million. However, Governor Sindh later set aside this decision, leading to the current legal challenge.

Key Arguments in the Petition: The petitioner contends that the Governor’s interpretation of “harassment” contradicts established Supreme Court precedents. The plea asserts that the Governor ignored critical evidence regarding a “negative workplace environment” and systemic harassment. Furthermore, Ms. Aziz maintained that her dismissal from service, occurring just one month after she filed the harassment complaint, was a clear act of victimisation and retaliation.

The Prayer: The petitioner has requested the Sindh High Court to nullify the Governor’s order dated January 20, 2026, and uphold the original findings of the Provincial Ombudsman.

Court Status: The Sindh High Court has formally included former CEO Moonis Alvi and other relevant parties as respondents in the case. However, the court declined the request for an immediate urgent hearing due to the absence of the petitioner’s counsel during the session.
