NED University Announces Admissions for 2026-27, Seats Increased to 3,156

KARACHI: The NED University of Engineering and Technology has officially announced the admission schedule for the academic year 2026-2027, introducing a significant increase of 140 seats across various categories and a revised fee structure. Registrar Dr. Ghazanfar Hussain confirmed that the online admission portal will be operational from March 30 to May 29, 2026. The first phase of the entry test, based on Intermediate Part-I results, is scheduled from June 4 to June 7, while the second phase is expected in the first week of July. Candidates must secure at least 50% marks to pass, with the final merit calculated using a weightage of 60% from the entry test and 40% from Intermediate Part-I results.

Expansion of Seats and Academic Programs

The total number of seats at the university has been raised from 3,016 to 3,156. In a move to facilitate deserving students, the Academic Council has recommended shifting 5 seats from the Self-Finance category to the Open Merit category. The breakdown of seat increases includes 16 seats for the Karachi Board, 24 for Mirpurkhas, 12 for the Minority Quota, 6 for A-Levels, 7 each for the Aga Khan Board and Hyderabad, and 6 seats each for Sukkur, Nawabshah, and Larkana. Furthermore, the Thar Campus is expanding its academic scope by launching two new programs: BS English and BS Management Sciences.

Revised Fee Structure and Financial Updates

The Finance Committee has proposed an approximate 10% hike in fees, pending final approval from the Syndicate. Under the new structure, the semester fee will increase from Rs. 51,930 to Rs. 57,000, while the admission fee has been raised from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 28,000. New students will be required to pay a total of Rs. 123,000 at the time of their first semester admission. Regarding self-finance categories, the local self-finance fee has been revised to Rs. 890,000, while the sponsored self-finance amount has been increased to Rs. 1.1 million. These financial recommendations are expected to be formally ratified in the upcoming Syndicate meeting.
