KARACHI – In a startling revelation of alleged corruption within the ranks, DIG South Zone Asad Raza has ordered a high-level inquiry after millions of rupees reportedly “disappeared” during a police raid on a gambling den in Maripur.
The Incident
On April 12, 2026, Maripur Police conducted a raid on a hut at Turtle Beach, which was allegedly being operated as a gambling site led by a woman identified as Zubaida alias Adeeba. Following the raid, police registered FIR No. 134 under Sections 5/5-A of the Gambling Act.
The Discrepancy
While the official police report submitted by SHO Maripur claimed that 40 suspects were arrested and a total of Rs. 255,500 was recovered, internal police sources have painted a far more scandalous picture. According to credible sources, the actual amount seized during the raid was approximately Rs. 4.87 million—a massive contradiction to the figures mentioned in the official FIR.
Missing Assets and Valuables
Investigation sources revealed that specific valuables recovered from the suspects were never fully accounted for in the official record. Key missing items include: Adil Arif was allegedly carrying a bag containing Rs. 3.07 million, 21 tolas of gold, and a licensed 9mm pistol. Javed was found with Rs. 180,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and a watch. Saqib possessed Rs. 100,000 in cash, a bracelet, and a watch. Irfan had Rs. 80,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and a watch. Other suspects, including Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Tahir, Kamran Yusuf, and Hamza, were found with significant amounts ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 73,000 which were reportedly seized but not fully declared.
Allegations Against Police Personnel
Reports suggest that during the raid, SHO Maripur Aslam Khan was accompanied by an individual in civilian clothes identified as Kashif (allegedly a police official). Eyewitness accounts and internal reports suggest that Kashif allegedly stuffed the seized cash into bags and moved it to an undisclosed location.
Official Action
Taking notice of this “grave misconduct and negligence,” DIG South Asad Raza has appointed SSP District City, Syed Ali Hassan, as the inquiry officer. The SSP has been tasked to investigate the embezzlement and submit a detailed report within five days. Authorities have stated that strict legal action will be initiated against any official found involved in this misappropriation of seized assets.
