KARACHI: Despite stringent security measures and the sealing of markets for the Youm-e-Ali procession, unidentified burglars looted a mobile shop in the Saddar area, escaping with cash and goods worth Rs 2.3 million.
The Incident
The burglary took place at Sahil Electronics, located in Dildar Center. According to Minhaj Gulfam, a leader of the Saddar Mobile and Electronics Dealers Association, the thieves managed to bypass the security perimeter to steal mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 2 million and Rs 300,000 in cash.
Official Response
Taking notice of the high-profile theft in a supposedly “red zone” security environment, IG Sindh has summoned a preliminary investigation report from the Karachi Police Chief. A specialized team of experienced officers has been formed to probe the matter, with specific instructions to utilize CCTV footage and modern forensics to trace the culprits.
Police Statement
Police officials confirmed that the shop owner, Naeem, alerted them to the incident; however, a formal FIR (First Information Report) has yet to be registered. Interestingly, police records reveal that a similar theft was reported at this same shop during last year’s procession as well. Authorities are currently questioning neighboring shopkeepers and security guards to determine if there was any inside assistance or a breach in the cordoned-off area.
