KARACHI – In a major operation against currency smuggling, the Mochko Police intercepted a massive consignment of Iranian currency worth billions of rupees and apprehended nine suspects, including three women.
The Operation
Acting on a tip-off from intelligence sources, the Keamari Police intercepted two Karachi-bound cars arriving from Balochistan. Upon a thorough search, officers discovered 236 bundles of Iranian currency expertly concealed within various sections of the vehicles, including the spare tires. The total value of the seized currency is estimated at approximately 29.69 billion Iranian Rial. All nine suspects, consisting of six men and three women, were taken into custody while both vehicles were impounded.
Handover to FIA
A spokesperson for the Keamari Police stated that after completing the initial legal formalities, the suspects and the recovered currency were handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigation into the smuggling network. In recognition of this successful operation, the SSP District Keamari announced commendation certificates for the SHO Mochko and his team.
Government Response
Sindh Interior Minister, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, lauded the police team for their vigilance. He emphasized that the provincial government will continue its crackdown on inter-provincial smuggling.
“No leniency will be shown to those involved in currency smuggling. Law enforcement agencies must tighten surveillance at all entry and exit points to dismantle these criminal networks,” the Minister stated.
