KARACHI: In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Shah Latif Town Police successfully dismantled a high-profile drug supply network, arresting five suspects—including two women. Authorities recovered over 25 kilograms of high-quality hashish (chars), valued at millions of rupees, from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a targeted raid near the Murghi Khana Bridge at the Malir River, intercepting the suspects while they were attempting to transport the contraband.
Identity of the Suspects
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shakir Naveed, Abdul Manan, Naveed Khaliq, Fazeela (wife of Shakir Naveed), and Naheed (wife of Naveed Khaliq).
A Family-Run Drug Network
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir, Abdul Khaleeq Pirzada, the suspects are close relatives, with the arrested women being the wives of two of the male suspects.
“The cartel was deliberately using women as a cover to easily transport drugs and evade law enforcement checkpoints,” SSP Pirzada stated.
Seizure and Market Value
During the operation, police recovered exactly 25,200 grams (over 25 kg) of premium-grade hashish alongside multiple mobile phones used for coordinating smuggling operations. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics exceeds PKR 5 million.
Targeting Karachi’s Posh Areas
Preliminary investigations reveal that the high-quality hashish was destined for supply and sale across various upscale neighborhoods of Karachi.
The timely intervention by the Shah Latif Town Police has effectively disrupted a major supply chain threatening the city’s youth. A formal case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway to trace and apprehend other facilitators linked to this drug network.
