KARACHI – In a rare display of simplicity and public solidarity, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) historic Spencer Eye Hospital, where he underwent a medical check-up by following the standard OPD procedures like any ordinary citizen.
The Mayor arrived without any official protocol, acquired the standard hospital token/slip, and patiently waited for his turn in the Outpatient Department (OPD) queue to see the doctor. He was accompanied by KMC Municipal Commissioner Abrar Jafar, PPP Parliamentary Leader in the City Council Karamullah Waqasi, and Senior Director of the Estate Department Sumaira.
Restoring Public Trust in Healthcare
Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized his administration’s commitment to providing equitable and high-quality healthcare services to all citizens without any discrimination.
“Restoring public confidence in state-owned institutions is our topmost priority, and practical steps are being actively taken to achieve this goal,” the Mayor stated.
From Neglect to Recovery
Reflecting on the hospital’s transformation, Wahab noted that while Spencer Eye Hospital suffered from neglect in the past, it is now rapidly becoming a trusted hub for eye care.
“The fact that I am getting my own check-up done here today is proof that we are bringing tangible improvements to our government institutions,” he added. The Mayor further assured that KMC-run hospitals will see upgrades, including a consistent supply of medicines, improved sanitation, and the provision of modern medical equipment to ensure the best possible treatment for the public.
