Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the city’s first Smart and Digital Parking System at the Hyperstar Beach View parking lot near Dolmen Mall, Clifton. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Mayor highlighted that Karachi’s citizens have long suffered from extortionate, unregulated parking fees collected by unauthorized individuals with no revenue tracking for the national exchequer. To tackle this, the newly introduced mechanical and digital parking lots will provide citizens with official digital slips, ensuring they are charged strictly according to their parked duration. Furthermore, the automated system enables the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to maintain a precise, real-time digital record of all revenues generated across parking sites. This Clifton site marks the successful launch of the first of 10 planned digital parking lots designated across Karachi to reform the city’s urban infrastructure and bring transparency to the parking system.
