Karachi Kings Captain David Warner Charged with Drink-Driving in Sydney

KARACHI – In a shocking development for Pakistan Super League (PSL) fans, Karachi Kings captain and Australian cricketing star David Warner has been charged with mid-range drink-driving in Sydney. According to Australian media reports, the incident occurred on Sunday evening around 5:30 PM in the Maroubra area. New South Wales (NSW) police stopped a van driven by a 39-year-old man, later identified as Warner, for a roadside breath test.

The Incident Details Reports suggest Warner attempted to stop his vehicle shortly before reaching a police testing station. A secondary breath test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104, which is more than double the legal limit of 0.05 prescribed in New South Wales. Warner was arrested and taken to a local police station, where he was formally charged with mid-range drink-driving.

Court Appearance NSW Police confirmed that the driver has been issued a notice to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Impact on Karachi Kings The veteran opening batter was in Australia on a short break from the ongoing PSL season. He was scheduled to rejoin the Karachi Kings squad on April 9. This legal trouble puts a significant question mark over his immediate availability for the franchise and his leadership role for the remainder of the tournament. The Karachi Kings management has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Karachi Fact Check: The blood alcohol limit in NSW is strictly 0.05. A reading of 0.104 falls under the ‘Mid-Range’ category, which carries penalties including immediate license suspension and potential fines.
