Sindh Home Minister Orders Ruthless Crackdown on Land Grabbing and Encroachments

KARACHI: In a major move to address the grievances of the business community and the general public, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar chaired the 4th high-level committee meeting focused on anti-encroachment and land grabbing. During the session, the committee conducted a point-to-point review of 21 specific cases involving land mafia and illegal occupations. It was reported that 6 cases have already been successfully resolved, while instructions were issued to expedite the remaining files.

Minister Lanjar ordered law enforcement agencies to intensify operations against land mafias without discrimination and zero tolerance. He directed the Commissioner Karachi to ensure there are no delays in processing written complaints and to implement effective tasking for reclaiming both private and government lands. The Minister emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and better coordination between the Home Department, Police, and District Administration while issuing a directive to form a robust mechanism for the immediate resolution of citizen complaints.

Commissioner Karachi briefed the chair that ongoing operations are being monitored closely and district administrations have been mobilized to protect government property at all costs, stating that no negligence will be tolerated in the elimination of illegal occupations. IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho confirmed that field officers have been given clear instructions to take legal action against land grabbers. He highlighted that coordination between the police, the Commissioner’s office, and the business community is being further strengthened.

Representatives from ABAD, KCCI, and FPCCI expressed satisfaction with the government’s proactive stance. They lauded the timely police support and the government’s efforts to maintain law and order, pledging their full cooperation for the public interest. The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Iqbal Memon, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho, representatives from Anti-Corruption and Home Departments, Chairman ABAD, and Presidents of KCCI and FPCCI Anti-Corruption Committee.
