KARACHI – In a significant move to overhaul the city’s aging transport infrastructure, Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has chaired a high-level meeting to expedite the completion of the Red and Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects.
Key Progress Updates
During the briefing, the CEO of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) highlighted several critical milestones regarding the ongoing work. Construction on both sides of the Red Line BRT near Nipa Chowrangi is now nearing completion, while work is currently underway to demolish the second portion of the Taj Haider Bridge to make way for the new track. Furthermore, the meeting discussed the induction of new Electric Vehicle (EV) buses and the upcoming launch of EV taxis to modernize the city’s fleet.
Commitment to Completion
Minister Sharjeel Memon emphasized that modern urban transport is the backbone of any developing city. He stated that the Red and Yellow Lines would serve as vital arteries, connecting Karachi’s residential hubs with major business districts. He assured that the government is utilizing all available resources to ensure these projects are completed within their stipulated timeframes. According to the Minister, the completion of these BRT tracks will bring a visible and much-needed improvement to Karachi’s transport landscape.
Empowering Women
In addition to the BRT updates, the Minister announced that the second phase of the Pink Scooty scheme for women will be launched soon. This initiative aims to further enhance mobility options and independence for the city’s female workforce and students.
