KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief, Munem Zafar, has announced a complete city-wide shutdown on September 3, 2026, in protest against soaring inflation, oppressive taxation, and government inefficiency.
During a press conference, Zafar highlighted the severe economic strain on the working class, noting that exorbitant petroleum levies—amounting to 130 rupees per liter—have driven basic food items beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. He criticized low wages, challenging rulers to manage a household budget on 40,000 to 45,000 rupees a month, while pointing out that citizens are being driven to despair and suicide. Furthermore, he condemned lavish state expenditures amidst public hardship and sharply criticized governmental negligence regarding public healthcare safety standards, specifically referencing a tragic fire at PIMS Hospital that claimed the lives of 14 innocent children.
