KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert for Karachi, forecasting a spell of heavy rains and thunderstorms under a powerful western weather system expected to hit the city on April 2 and 3, 2026.
According to the latest advisory, the western system is set to grip the entire country from next week. While it will affect regions from Karachi to Kashmir between April 2 and April 5, the southern parts of the country—particularly Karachi—are expected to be hit the hardest.
Key Highlights of the Forecast: High winds, dust storms, and potential hailstorms are expected to accompany the rainfall. Initial analysis suggests that Karachi could receive between 20mm to 35mm of rain, with some areas potentially exceeding 50mm. Experts suggest this system might break previous rainfall records for the month of April in Karachi. The system is predicted to enter the city on the evening or night of April 2 and will continue to impact upper and central parts of Pakistan until April 5.
Safety Advisory: Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions during the windstorms and heavy downpours. Authorities have been alerted to manage potential urban flooding and traffic disruptions during the peak of the system.
