KARACHI: In a major move to upgrade urban mobility, the Government of Sindh has announced the addition of 500 electric vehicles (EVs) and 50 double-decker buses to its public transport system. This decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, which brought together key officials including Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, KDA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, and various district Deputy Commissioners. The primary focus of the session was to review the comprehensive transport plan and expedite the allocation of vacant state land required for setting up modern bus depots to facilitate the parking and operations of this massive new fleet.

During the briefing, Minister Sharjeel Memon directed the Deputy Commissioners to immediately identify available government land within their respective jurisdictions to ensure the swift construction of mass transit infrastructure. He emphasized that the induction of these 550 modern buses is a testament to the Sindh government’s unwavering commitment to providing the public with affordable, comfortable, and eco-friendly transit solutions. The administration is now working on a fast-track basis to deploy these vehicles onto the roads as quickly as possible to revolutionize the province’s public transport landscape.
