Marking a major milestone in the country’s tech sector, Google has officially opened its first local office in Pakistan. To celebrate the launch, Google Vice President Wilson White announced that the company will provide a one-year free subscription to Google Gemini for all students across the nation, with the formal rollout expected later this week.
Speaking at the inauguration event, White noted that this initiative supports Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s target of driving $30 billion in IT exports. Highlighting Google’s ongoing economic impact, he shared that the tech giant has contributed over PKR 3.9 trillion to local households and businesses and supported more than 960,000 jobs over the past decade. Concluding his remarks on future expansion, White stated, “This is only the beginning.”
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja welcomed the milestone, taking to social media platform X to celebrate Google establishing its official physical presence in Pakistan.
