KARACHI: In a major anti-smuggling operation, the Air Cargo Control Unit of Karachi Airport Customs successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle high-value narcotics through international mail.
During routine screening, officials intercepted two suspicious parcels arriving from Thailand at the International Mail Office. A detailed search of the consignments led to the recovery of 12 kilograms of high-grade Marijuana, estimated to be worth PKR 36 crore 62 lakh (PKR 366.2 million) on the international market.
To evade detection, the smugglers had misdeclared the cargo and expertly concealed the drugs inside children’s toy boxes, including plastic toys, Lego sets, model kits, and wooden crafts.
Karachi Customs has confiscated the contraband and registered a formal case. An investigation is currently underway to trace and dismantle the international smuggling network behind the shipment.
