FIR Registered Over Alleged Rigging and Violence in Karachi Bar Association Elections

KARACHI: A formal case has been registered at the City Court Police Station against unidentified individuals following allegations of rigging and violent disruptions during the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) annual elections.

Case Details: The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged on the complaint of Munir Ahmed, an employee of the Sindh Bar Council. According to the complainant, the incident occurred on May 7 at approximately 10:30 AM when chaos erupted and slogans of “rigging” were raised. Approximately 30 to 40 lawyers allegedly snatched ballot papers by force and initiated a protest to disrupt the proceedings.

The FIR further states that the group snatched polling materials from the West Court and forcibly suspended the polling process in other districts as well. The miscreants reportedly used abusive language, assaulted returning officers, and damaged property, effectively sabotaging the entire electoral process.

Police Action: The complainant stated that he approached the police on the instructions of the Sindh Bar Council to seek legal action against those involved in the violence and the manhandling of election officials. The police have registered the case against unknown suspects and have initiated an investigation into the matter to identify those responsible through available evidence.
