KARACHI – The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle conducted a high-profile raid on the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Head Office on Thursday, seizing significant documents related to land records.
The Operation
The FIA team, led by two assistant directors, arrived at the KMC headquarters in the afternoon. After initially visiting the office of Municipal Commissioner Sumaira Hussain, the team proceeded to the Land Department’s record room on the second floor.
Forced Entry and Missing Keys
Sources reveal that the record room was locked at the time of the raid. Investigation suggests that a retired officer, Ghulam Ghazi—who officially retired on February 2—is accused of taking the keys with him. Consequently, the FIA team was forced to break the locks in their presence to gain access to the files.
Connection to Stock Exchange Case
The raid is reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation regarding properties near the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The team focused on specific land allotments and recovery documents during the search. Sources indicate that a KMC employee, who was acting as a witness in the Stock Exchange building case, was recently dismissed from service. Two specialized teams have been formed to oversee the recovery of these properties.
The FIA has taken the relevant records into custody for further scrutiny as part of its broader crackdown on land-related corruption within the city’s municipal body.
