Father-Son Duo Leading 8-Member Street Crime Gang Arrested in Karachi

KARACHI: District Central Police have dismantled a highly active 8-member criminal syndicate, led by a father and his son, involved in over 100 street crimes across the city. The operation was conducted within the jurisdiction of the Taimuria Police Station.

The Operation and Recoveries

During a press conference at his office, SSP Central Dr. Muhammad Imran Khan revealed that a special team comprising SHOs from FB Industrial Area and Taimuria, along with technical staff, raided a rented house where the gang was hiding.

The police recovered 13 stolen mobile phones, 8 wristwatches, 13 original CNICs of citizens, 4 bags, 6 real pistols, 2 dummy pistols, and 3 motorcycles used in various crimes.

The Gang’s Hierarchy

The arrested suspects have been identified as Mansoor Ahmed (the kingpin), his son Fahad, and their accomplices Muhammad Ubaid, Muzammil, Muhammad Irfan, Noman, Imran Ali, and Muhammad Zubair. According to SSP Central, Mansoor managed the gang’s logistics and planning, while his son, Fahad, led the team on the ground. The group operated with professional precision, frequently changing their rented hideouts every two months to evade capture.

Modus Operandi: “The 1 AM to 3 AM Window”

Investigation revealed that the gang was particularly active between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM, targeting young citizens in areas including Liaquatabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Lyari Expressway. The gang employed a specific tactic where they forced victims to unlock their phones and provide passwords at gunpoint to gain access to banking apps and personal data.

Technical Manipulation

The investigation also exposed a sophisticated technical side to the gang’s operations. One of the members, Imran, was responsible for buying stolen phones and altering their IMEI numbers. The group would swap the IMEIs of expensive smartphones with those of cheaper devices to resell them in the market at high prices without detection.

Current Status

Cases have been registered against the suspects at the Taimuria Police Station. While some victims have already been identified through recovered CNICs and phones, police are currently reaching out to other affected citizens to complete the legal process. Further investigation is underway.
