KARACHI: An infant in Karachi has suffered the amputation of his arm following severe medical malpractice at a local clinic, prompting a formal police investigation and intervention by the healthcare authorities. The case centers on a one-month-old infant named Azmatullah, whose parents brought him to a hospital in Orangi Town Sector 4 on August 31, 2026, due to a sudden illness. According to the father’s statement, Dr. Yasir Inam and three staff members administered an improperly placed cannula, forcing multiple unsuccessful needle insertions. Four days later, when the medical bandage was removed, the infant’s hand had turned completely black due to a severe, rapidly spreading infection.
Although the attending doctor initially dismissed the severity and prescribed localized medication, the deteriorating condition prompted the parents to transfer the child to Jinnah Hospital. Specialists there confirmed that improper cannulation caused the tissue necrosis, making amputation unavoidable to save the infant’s life. Law enforcement has registered a criminal case at the Pirabad Police Station against Dr. Yasir Inam and the hospital staff, while also escalating the matter to the Sindh Healthcare Commission to determine regulatory accountability.
