KARACHI / QUETTA — A tragic highway ambush has claimed the life of a prominent Karachi-based mobile market trader, Ali Jamil, and left his wife severely injured after a navigation app misdirected their vehicle into a dangerous territory in Balochistan. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Friday night when Jamil was returning to Karachi along with his wife and two daughters after a family vacation in Quetta. Relying on Google Maps for highway guidance, the family accidentally diverted from the National Highway and drifted into a desolate and isolated area of Dasht (Khand).
While driving through the deserted terrain, unidentified armed men signaled the vehicle to stop. Sensing imminent danger, Jamil attempted to speed away to protect his family, prompting the gunmen to open indiscriminate fire on the fleeing car. Consequently, Ali Jamil tragically lost his life on the spot due to bullet wounds, while his wife sustained critical injuries. Miraculously, their two young daughters survived the horrifying attack completely unharmed.
The deceased’s body was transported back to Karachi on Sunday, where his funeral prayers were offered at the Rahmaniya Mosque on Tariq Road. The funeral was attended by a massive gathering of the Karachi trader community, electronics dealers, relatives, and grieving citizens. Deeply shaken by the incident, the Karachi Mobile and Electronics Dealers Association strongly condemned the brutal killing and demanded that the government and law enforcement agencies immediately apprehend the perpetrators to ensure justice is served. In response to the outcry, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau has taken strict notice of the attack, demanding an immediate investigation report and vowing that those responsible for this heinous crime will be brought to justice swiftly.
