KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar officially inaugurated the “Gul Plaza Bazaar” at the Karachi Expo Center to support shopkeepers affected by the recent fire tragedy. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, while Zubair Motiwala, President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Chairman of BMG, welcomed the provincial ministers.
Support for Traders
Speaking to the media, Sharjeel Inam Memon highlighted that the stalls at the Expo Center are a joint initiative by the Federal and Sindh governments. This temporary arrangement ensures that displaced shopkeepers can continue their business operations during the peak shopping season. He stated that the government is hopeful that the affected shopkeepers will be able to return to their original shops in Gul Plaza after restoration work is completed by the upcoming Eid.
Government Commitment and Security
Memon emphasized that the Karachi Chamber has always been an icon for traders, recalling its pivotal role during the Timber Market tragedy. He noted that despite negative propaganda, the Sindh government is taking concrete steps to protect the business community and citizens. He claimed a visible decline in street crimes and envisioned Karachi as a leading regional hub in the near future. Regarding political cooperation, he welcomed the new Governor and noted that political differences should not hinder cooperation for the country’s progress.
Police Reforms and Administrative Support
Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar announced that unnecessary security details are being withdrawn to optimize police deployment across the city. He added that these measures are specifically aimed at enhancing public safety and ensuring better management during the holy month of Ramadan.
