KARACHI: DIG Traffic Karachi has acknowledged technical issues currently affecting the e-challan system while highlighting key ongoing challenges and enforcement measures within the city’s traffic infrastructure. The DIG Traffic admitted to technical glitches in the e-challan process and emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive public awareness campaigns. Strict enforcement of lane discipline is currently underway, alongside a strong emphasis on the critical importance of helmet compliance for motorcyclists. Addressing vehicle statistics, the traffic chief revealed that out of approximately 4.6 million motorcycles currently registered in Karachi, a staggering 60 percent are operating with fake number plates. Furthermore, the city’s public transport landscape has drastically contracted, declining from 9,000 operational buses in the past to just 2,000 today, whereas the number of rickshaws has surged to 300,000.
