KARACHI – In a chilling targeted attack, a 35-year-old mother of five was shot dead, while another young woman was injured after a gunman opened fire on them in the Mansehra Colony area of Quaidabad.
The Incident The victims, identified as Asma (35) and Shumaila (22), were heading home after finishing their shift at a local factory. According to eyewitnesses, a man on a motorcycle had been tailing the women. Upon reaching a secluded spot, the assailant opened fire and fled the scene.
Asma died on the spot, while Shumaila sustained injuries. Both were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) by rescue volunteers.
Police Investigation Initial police findings suggest the incident may be rooted in personal enmity. Law enforcement officials noted that while Shumaila was injured, she was not the primary target but was caught in the crossfire.
“The suspect followed them from the factory and fired at close range. We are currently searching for CCTV footage to identify the killer, as none was immediately available from the crime scene,” a police spokesperson stated. The Crime Scene Unit has collected evidence for forensic analysis.
A Family Shattered The deceased’s husband, Haroon, a mechanic by profession, expressed his shock and grief at JPMC. Married for 20 years, the couple worked together to support their five children.
“We are poor people and had no known enmity with anyone. Asma worked at the factory to help me run the household. I received a phone call telling me she had been shot, and my world turned upside down,” Haroon shared.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the murder and to apprehend the fugitive gunman.
