LPG dealers in Karachi are openly flouting official regulations, causing heavy financial distress to residents already grappling with gas load shedding. Despite the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) fixing the official rate at PKR 279.34 per kg, the fuel is being sold illegally in the open market for up to PKR 550 per kg—a staggering markup exceeding PKR 270 per kg.
Irfan Khokhar, leader of the LPG Association, condemned the widespread black-marketing, accusing LPG distributors of capitalizing on rising winter demand for illicit profits. He urged authorities to take immediate strict enforcement actions against illegal price gouging to stabilize the market, warning that any further disruption in supply could trigger even higher price hikes.
