KARACHI: Chaos erupted in Karachi as hundreds of students, teachers, and parents staged a fierce protest following the sudden judicial sealing of the historic Delhi Government School. Refusing to back down, young students and faculty members marched toward the main gates, broke the locks, and re-entered the building to register their defiance.
The closure has left the academic future of over 2,800 students (including 2,100 girls and 700 boys) hanging in the balance. Demonstrators held placards and staged a mock street assembly, threatening to hold open-air classes on the main roads if the campus remains shut.
School administration and education officials highlighted the gravity of the crisis. Principal Ali Khan Mir Jat stated that relocating 2,800 students is practically impossible due to the complete lack of comparable public educational facilities in the surrounding areas. Teachers pointed out that the institution has paid its rent consistently up to June 2026 and boasts a proud legacy, maintaining a stellar 93% matriculation success rate this year alongside a history of board positions dating back decades.
District Education Officer (DEO) Central Nawaz Ali confirmed that the department is filing an urgent legal appeal to safeguard the institution. Meanwhile, community leaders and faculty have appealed directly to provincial authorities and the Minister of Education to permanently acquire the building, ensuring that thousands of underprivileged children are not deprived of their right to education.
