KARACHI: The Universities and Boards Department of the Sindh Government has formally directed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi (KU), Professor Dr. Khalid Iraqi, to postpone the 662nd Syndicate meeting scheduled for July 27, 2026. This directive was issued through an official letter by Section Officer Kamal Ahmed, noting that the scheduled session coincides exactly with the final day of Dr. Iraqi’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor. As a direct consequence of this postponement, several highly anticipated faculty appointments and promotions, which relied on the upcoming selection board recommendations, have been put on hold.
The provincial government’s intervention stems from the critical nature of the meeting’s agenda, which includes long-term legal, administrative, and financial commitments that could deeply impact the university’s future governance. The department emphasized that for the sake of institutional continuity, good governance, and strict accountability, these high-stakes decisions should be deferred. Consequently, the government has advised that the session be rescheduled only after the incoming regular Vice-Chancellor assumes charge, ensuring that the new leadership can properly oversee and implement these vital administrative matters.
