Intermediate Annual Exams Begin in Karachi, Board Introduces Digital Attendance System

KARACHI – The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) officially commenced the Annual Intermediate Examinations today, Wednesday. This year’s examination cycle is marked by the introduction of modern monitoring techniques and rigorous heatwave precautions.

Key Statistics & Logistics

According to BIEK Chairman, Faqeer Muhammad Lakho, over 160,000 students are appearing for the exams across both morning and evening shifts. A total of 175 examination centers have been established across the city, with 130 centers operational in the morning shift and 45 dedicated to the evening shift. Furthermore, 21 centers have been declared “highly sensitive,” requiring extra vigilance and security during the process.

Heatwave Measures & Emergency Response

Given the rising temperatures in the city, the Board has prioritized student safety by partnering with Rescue 1122 to provide immediate medical assistance. First-aid boxes have been placed at all centers, and ambulance services will remain on standby in close proximity to the venues. Additionally, papers for the morning shift are scheduled from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM to minimize exposure to the peak afternoon heat.

Modernization: Digital Attendance Monitoring

In a first for the metropolitan’s examination system, BIEK has introduced a Digital Attendance Monitoring System to enhance transparency. This initiative ensures that attendance for both staff and students is recorded digitally to maintain real-time records and curb administrative lapses. The examinations are scheduled to continue until June 15, 2026.
