KARACHI – Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has announced a targeted relief package to cushion the impact of rising global oil prices on the public. Under this initiative, registered motorcyclists and small-scale farmers across the province will receive direct financial assistance.
Direct Cash Relief for Motorcyclists
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the Chief Minister revealed that the Sindh government has decided to provide a Rs. 2,000 monthly subsidy to every registered motorcycle owner for the month of April. The subsidy is calculated at Rs. 100 per liter for up to 20 liters of fuel. There are 6.6 million registered motorcycles in Sindh, and the funds will be transferred directly to the accounts of individuals who have the motorcycle registered in their name via a dedicated app. CM Shah urged citizens to transfer motorcycles to their own names within 15 days to avail of this benefit, announcing that the transfer fee has been waived for this period.
Support for Agriculture and Transport
The relief package also extends to the agricultural sector and public transport. Over 336,000 registered small farmers owning less than 25 acres will receive Rs. 1,500 per acre for one month. Additionally, in collaboration with the federal government, monthly subsidies will be provided to registered vehicles including Rs. 100,000 for buses, Rs. 70,000 for 2-axle trucks, and Rs. 80,000 for large trucks.
Regional Context & Economic Pressure
The Chief Minister highlighted that the regional situation remains tense due to international conflicts, which has driven up global oil prices. He noted that while the federal government maintained prices over the last three weeks, targeted subsidies are essential to protect the lower-income classes. By using digital verification, the government ensures the subsidy reaches the actual owner of the vehicle. The Chief Minister also confirmed that there would be no increase in railway fares for lower-class commuters, further easing the burden on the common man.
