KARACHI: In a strategic move to bolster urban law and order, Sindh Police has announced the establishment of a specialized Crowd Management Unit (CMU). Formed under the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, the unit aims to ensure public safety and streamline the response to large-scale protests and civil unrest.
Structure and Leadership
The newly formed unit will operate under the direct supervision of DIG Security, Dr. Maqsood Ahmed. It comprises 700 highly trained personnel drawn from various specialized wings of the Sindh Police, including the Special Security Unit (SSU), Security-I, Security-II, Court Police, Madadgar 15, and the Foreigners Security Cell.
Operational Objectives
The integration of these diverse units is designed to provide a cohesive and rapid response to potential threats. Key focus areas include managing volatile crowds and preventing escalations, protecting the lives and property of citizens as a top priority, and implementing effective strategies to safeguard both government and private infrastructure.
Training and Discipline
Addressing the personnel, DIG Security Dr. Maqsood Ahmed emphasized the critical importance of discipline and immediate response. He stated that the creation of this anti-riot force reflects the Security Division’s proactive commitment to maintaining peace. The unit is equipped with modern training and advanced gear to handle complex law and order situations professionally, making it a mainstay in the police’s strategy for maintaining stability across the province.
