DSP Ahsan Zulfiqar Passes Away After Year-Long Battle Following Gunfight in Mustafa Amir Case

KARACHI – DSP Syed Ahsan Zulfiqar, who was critically wounded during a high-profile raid at the residence of prime suspect Armaghan in the Mustafa Amir murder case, passed away yesterday at a private hospital on Stadium Road. The veteran officer had been battling for his life for over a year following the encounter in February 2025. Despite multiple surgeries and treatment at four different private hospitals, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

The Incident and Valor

On February 8, 2025, DSP Zulfiqar—then serving in the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC)—led a joint raid with the CPLC at Bungalow No. 35, Khayaban-e-Momin, Phase 7, DHA. The operation aimed to recover the abducted youth, Mustafa Amir. During the raid, the primary suspect, Armaghan, opened fire with sophisticated weapons. DSP Zulfiqar and his guard, Mohammad Iqbal, sustained severe gunshot wounds. Specifically, the DSP was shot in the leg, a wound that led to prolonged medical complications.

Funeral and Honors

The funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) were offered at Jamia Masjid Rahmania on Tariq Road after Maghrib prayers on Monday, followed by burial at the Society Cemetery. The ceremony was attended by IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho, the Karachi Police Chief, senior police officials, and bereaved family members. IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho paid a glowing tribute to the late officer, stating that DSP Ahsan Zulfiqar was a brave and professional officer who set a high example of courage. He added that his struggle against crime will always be remembered and his family remains an integral part of the Sindh Police.

The IG Sindh further announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate every aspect of the incident. He confirmed that additional sections would be added to the existing case following the DSP’s death, ensuring that the suspects face the most stringent legal punishment.

Legacy

DSP Syed Ahsan Zulfiqar came from a family of law enforcement, being the son of a senior police officer. He officially retired from the force just one month after the Armaghan raid while still undergoing treatment. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, and a son. The Karachi Police spokesperson emphasized that the department salutes his dedication, noting that his tactical expertise during the Armaghan case was a testament to his professional brilliance.
