KARACHI: In a startling revelation, DIG Traffic Peer Mohammad Shah has disclosed that Karachi’s motorcyclists have successfully managed to bypass the city’s modern “E-Challan” system. Following these findings, IG Sindh has ordered a massive city-wide crackdown to commence immediately after Eid.
The Failure of the Digital System
In an exclusive briefing, DIG Traffic Peer Mohammad Shah shared the results of a recent sampling exercise conducted by the traffic police. The survey, which tracked 100 motorcycles to issue E-Challans, found a 100% failure rate in reaching the violators due to deliberate deception.
The survey highlights revealed that 70% of motorcycles had no license plates at all, while 20% of riders had intentionally obscured or tampered with their plates to avoid camera detection. The remaining 10% of bikes had registered addresses that were either fake or outdated, making the delivery of fines impossible.
Grand Operation After Eid
DIG Peer Mohammad Shah emphasized that attempts to sabotage the modern monitoring system will not be tolerated. He stated that they have observed a systematic trend of avoiding law enforcement through plate tampering, and this practice must end.
On the directives of IG Sindh, a Grand Operation will be launched across Karachi after the Eid holidays. During this crackdown, motorcycles without excise-issued number plates will be seized, and riders using “fancy” or tampered plates will face heavy penalties. Additionally, verification of addresses against registration records will be strictly enforced.
Traffic police officials have advised citizens to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and display standard license plates to avoid their motorcycles being impounded during the upcoming operation.
