KU Shifts Morning Classes Online Amid Fuel Price Hike and Ramadan

KARACHI – In response to the recent surge in petroleum prices and subsequent transport challenges, the University of Karachi (KU) has officially announced the suspension of physical classes for morning shifts, moving all academic activities online.

According to a notification issued with the approval of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khalid Iraqi, the transition will take effect from Monday, March 9, and will remain in place until the end of Ramadan. The administration cited the sharp increase in fuel prices and potential transport difficulties during the third ashra (last ten days) of Ramadan as the primary reasons for this shift.

Under this new directive, all morning programs will now be conducted virtually, matching the current status of evening programs which were already being held online. The university administration clarified that this is a temporary measure aimed at ensuring the academic calendar remains on track without putting an extra financial or physical burden on the student body during the holy month.

“This decision has been taken to facilitate students and faculty members who are facing logistical hurdles due to the current economic situation,” stated the Registrar’s office.
