Dense Fog Blankets Karachi: Flights Cancelled, Visibility Drops to 50 Meters

KARACHI – The intense cold spell gripping the provincial capital is expected to subside starting tomorrow, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts a gradual rise in temperatures.

Current Conditions The city continued to shiver today under the influence of icy winds from Balochistan, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 9.5°C. The Early Warning Center has been monitoring these northeasterly winds, which have maintained a persistent chill across the metropolitan area.

The Turning Point According to the latest advisory, the cold wave is likely to lose its grip as wind patterns shift. The PMD expects the winds from Balochistan to stabilize. In the coming days, the city is likely to experience winds from Quetta in the first half of the day, followed by a transition to milder southwesterly sea breezes in the afternoon.

Forecast for the Week While the weather will remain pleasant and moderate during the day, light chills will still be felt during the nights and early mornings.

  • Wednesday: Minimum temperature expected between 9°C and 11°C.
  • Thursday: Minimum temperature expected between 10°C and 12°C.

Fog Alert The Meteorological Department has also issued a caution regarding fog. On Thursday morning, visibility may be affected across the city due to foggy conditions. Similarly, plain areas across the province are also expected to experience morning fog.
