KARACHI – Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has declared the current year as the “Year of Completion” for Karachi’s infrastructure, announcing that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will spend Rs. 68 billion on various development schemes across the city. During an inspection of ongoing projects, the Mayor emphasized that all efforts are being made to finalize current schemes by June 15. He asserted that providing better infrastructure is a primary responsibility and no compromise will be made on the quality of work.
Field Inspections and Transparency
Mayor Wahab visited several sites to monitor the pace of construction. In the Old City Area, he inspected the rehabilitation of Maysam Lee Street. Accompanied by a media delegation, he stated that involving the press ensures transparency and keeps the public informed. In District Central, the Mayor reviewed progress on S.M. Tawfiq Road, a 1.25-kilometer busy artery, and directed officials to expedite the work to ease traffic congestion. Updates were also provided on Sahba Akhtar Road, North Nazimabad, Shadman Town, and New Karachi, where work is reportedly continuing day and night.
Key Connectivity & Infrastructure Goals
Highlighting major milestones, the Mayor shared that the Azeempura Flyover is aimed to be completed within 100 days. Furthermore, rapid progress is being made on Shahrah-e-Bhutto from Qayyumabad to Kathore, and a new project has been initiated to link the Karachi Port directly to Shahrah-e-Bhutto for smoother freight movement.

Water Supply Updates
Addressing the city’s water woes, the Mayor confirmed that the Hub Dam’s new canal is now fully functional. Furthermore, the Water Board has moved a summary to the Chief Minister of Sindh to increase the water quota from Hub Dam to meet the city’s growing needs. The Mayor credited the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the accelerated pace of development, reiterating the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) commitment to fulfilling its promises to the citizens of Karachi.
