KARACHI – National team spinner Usama Mir has lashed out at Mohammad Rizwan following the latter’s controversial comments regarding Hyderabad Kingmen’s qualification in the recently concluded PSL 11. The rift began during a press conference where Rizwan, captain of the Rawalpindis, claimed that Hyderabad Kingmen did not deserve to be in the playoffs. Ironically, Rizwan’s own side, the Rawalpindis, had a dismal season, securing only one victory out of 10 matches.
The Context of the Rivalry
Hyderabad Kingmen secured their playoff berth after a crushing 108-run victory over the Rawalpindis, advancing on a superior net run rate. While Kingmen eventually lost the final to Peshawar Zalmi, their journey was marked by clinical performances—something Usama Mir was quick to point out.
“Who Are You to Decide?”
Speaking to a local sports platform, a visibly frustrated Usama Mir didn’t hold back.
“I am deeply disappointed by Rizwan’s press conference. His team didn’t play good cricket, yet he is claiming others didn’t deserve to be there. Were you deserving? Who are you to decide this?” Mir questioned.
The spinner further highlighted the Rawalpindis’ poor form throughout the tournament, noting that the team was frequently bowled out for totals around 100. “What kind of remarks are these?” Mir added. “First, you play poor cricket yourselves, and then you hold a press conference as if you’ve achieved something extraordinary.”
Key Highlights of the Dispute
Performance Gap: Rawalpindis won 1/10 matches; Hyderabad Kingmen reached the Final. The Catalyst: Hyderabad defeated Rawalpindis by 108 runs to qualify. Mir’s Stance: Labeled Rizwan’s comments as unprofessional given his own team’s failure.
