KARACHI – In a significant move to bolster the city’s public transport network, the Sindh government has officially inaugurated a new Electric Vehicle (EV) bus service connecting Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower.
Route Details A fleet of 12 environment-friendly buses will operate on this route. The buses will travel from Gulshan-e-Maymar via Sohrab Goth, Water Pump, and Teen Hatti, passing through M.A. Jinnah Road before reaching the final stop at Tower.
Inauguration Ceremony Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon led the inauguration in Gulshan-e-Maymar. During his address, the minister emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to public service. “With the support of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership, we are fulfilling the promises made to the citizens. Our focus remains on providing immediate relief to the people,” Memon stated.
Political and Development Highlights In a wide-ranging speech, the minister touched upon several key points regarding regional security and infrastructure. He paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for making Pakistan a nuclear power, asserting that the country’s defense is “impregnable” and “the safest.” Regarding city infrastructure, Memon highlighted ongoing projects in solid waste management, water supply, and general infrastructure across Karachi. He announced that Shahrah-e-Bhutto would be opened by April 30th. The minister also criticized the federal government’s road conditions and pointed out a tax discrepancy, alleging that EV buses at the port faced an 18% tax for the provincial government compared to 1% for others.
The new EV service is expected to provide a modern, affordable, and sustainable commuting option for the residents of Gulshan-e-Maymar and surrounding areas.
