KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has granted Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) permission to file an appeal seeking the expungement of “harsh remarks” used against the party in a Sindh High Court (SHC) judgment. A three-member bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and including Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, heard the matter at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry.
MQM-P was represented by Barrister Farogh Naseem, Hassan Sabir Advocate, and Naeem Siddiqui Advocate. The legal team argued that the High Court had used severe language against the party in its written verdict and requested the apex court’s permission to present their stance and formally challenge those observations.
In its original petition, MQM-P pointed out that the SHC verdict alleged the party’s involvement in “terrorist activities” and the “killing of its own leaders.” The party has prayed to the Supreme Court to expunge these remarks from the judicial record, stating they are prejudicial. After hearing the initial arguments, the Supreme Court bench formally allowed MQM-P to file an appeal to contest the remarks and present their version of the facts before the apex court.
