KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to fast-track the relocation of gas and electricity lines hindering the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. During his fourth visit to the site within a single week, the CM emphasized that inter-departmental cooperation is key to removing all construction bottlenecks. Accompanied by Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, and top officials from K-Electric and SSGC, the Chief Minister inspected various sections of the project, starting from Dawood University of Engineering and Technology.
Key Progress & Directives
Mixed Traffic Lanes (MTL): Asphalt patchwork from Numaish to Mosamiyat has been completed. The CM ordered the acceleration of sub-grade and aggregate base work to ensure smooth traffic flow from Nipa to Hassan Square.
Utility & Infrastructure: Relocation of the 48-inch diameter water line is in its final stages. The CM directed that drainage and water line shifting be expedited by introducing a second shift for night work. Furthermore, work on the flyover near Mumtaz Manzil and U-turns must commence immediately.
K-IV Integration: Pipe-laying for the K-IV extension from Urdu University to Hassan Square is reportedly progressing rapidly.
Public Relief: Instructions were issued to complete road construction and water line work on both sides of the Old Sabzi Mandi area to remove temporary barriers and restore traffic.
“I will personally inspect the project every week to ensure no hurdles remain. By my next visit, I expect all set deadlines to be met,” CM Murad Ali Shah stated.
The 25-kilometer-long project aims to revolutionize Karachi’s public transport, and the CM has vowed to oversee the completion of the remaining Mixed Traffic Lanes (MTL) according to the strict schedule.
