KARACHI: In a major crackdown against street crime, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) have dismantled a notorious criminal group known as the “Daru Gang” during an operation in the Orangi Town area. Five key members of the gang were apprehended for their involvement in over 200 motorcycle snatching incidents and several fatal robberies.
The Arrested Suspects
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Asghar (alias Bagheecha), Abdul Wahid (alias Sunil), Zahoor (alias Ali), Gulzar (alias Kurraro), and Irfan Ali. The paramilitary force recovered three mobile phones and a significant amount of cash from their possession.
Shocking Criminal Record
During the initial investigation, the suspects confessed to a series of high-profile crimes committed over the last three to four years across Larkana, Orangi Town, and surrounding areas. Their criminal activities include snatching more than 200 motorcycles, robbing 300 to 400 mobile phones, and looting approximately PKR 5 to 6 million. Furthermore, the group was heavily involved in the illegal arms trade, supplying unlicensed weapons to other criminal elements in the city.
Confessions of Murder
Two of the arrested suspects, Abdul Wahid (Sunil) and Zahoor (Ali), made chilling revelations during interrogation. They confessed to shooting and killing a woman and a local trader in two separate robberies in Orangi Town after the victims resisted their mugging attempts.
Modus Operandi
The gang disclosed that they used to sell the snatched motorcycles and mobile phones at throwaway prices in various parts of Karachi to avoid detection.
Legal Proceedings
According to the Rangers spokesperson, two other members of this gang are already in police custody, while raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining accomplices. The suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the police for further legal action and prosecution.
