Police Foil Abduction Attempt of K-Electric Staff, Three Recovered After Shootout

KARACHI: The Karachi Police on Thursday successfully foiled a major kidnapping attempt, rescuing three K-Electric (KE) employees after a high-speed pursuit and a brief exchange of fire in the Boat Basin area.

The Incident According to police officials, the ordeal began early Thursday morning in the Lines Area. A group of armed suspects intercepted a K-Electric team on duty, taking three employees hostage. The kidnappers forced the staff into their own official KE vehicle and drove them around various parts of the city, while the suspects’ personal getaway car followed closely behind.

The Robbery During the abduction, the suspects used the captive team as a cover to commit a robbery in the Aram Bagh area. The criminals reportedly cut the locks of a warehouse/shop and looted copper wires and other valuable equipment worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, loading the stolen goods into the vehicle.

The Rescue Operation The KE team demonstrated remarkable presence of mind by secretly alerting the Madadgar 15 police helpline. Using the KE vehicle’s built-in GPS tracker, the staff managed to transmit their live location to the authorities.

Acting on the coordinates, police units established a cordon in the Boat Basin vicinity. Upon spotting the vehicle, the police signaled the suspects to stop, prompting the kidnappers to open fire. The police retaliated, firing approximately 15 to 16 rounds in the ensuing shootout.

The Outcome Feeling the heat of the police response, the suspects abandoned the K-Electric vehicle and the hostages, fleeing the scene in their own car. Police recovered the three employees safely from the back of the abandoned van.

The stolen copper and other equipment were also recovered from the site. While the suspects managed to escape under the cover of fire, a manhunt has been launched to track them down. Further legal proceedings are currently underway.
