KARACHI: In a significant breakthrough, Karachi police have arrested a “ruthless” suspect following an exchange of fire in Scheme 33, Sikandar Goth. The suspect was allegedly involved in the tragic killing of a father who was on his way to bury his daughter two days ago.
The Incident
The brutal incident occurred near the Punjab Bus Terminal on Super Highway, where armed robbers intercepted a vehicle. When the occupants resisted, the dacoits opened fire, killing Mansoor Ahmed and injuring his brother, Rashid Ali. The victims were traveling to attend the funeral rites of Mansoor’s daughter.
Police Encounter and Arrest
Following the outcry over the cold-blooded murder, SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh formed a special team led by SP Sohrab Goth. Acting on intelligence-based leads, the police tracked the suspects to the Sachal police jurisdiction. Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire. In the retaliatory shooting, one suspect was wounded and captured, while his accomplice managed to escape the scene. The arrested suspect has been identified as Sohaib, son of Rehman Ali. He was immediately shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. Police recovered an illegal pistol, ammunition, and a mobile phone from his possession.
Criminal Background
According to SSP East, preliminary investigations suggest that Sohaib is a repeat offender involved in numerous cases of street crime and armed robberies. We are currently scanning his previous criminal record and have launched a manhunt to apprehend his fleeing accomplice, the SSP stated.
