KARACHI – Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle foreign currency worth approximately PKR 12 million (1.2 crore) out of the country.
The Operation
Acting on a tip-off at the international departure lounge, Customs staff stopped a husband and wife who were scheduled to depart for an overseas destination via Emirates Airlines flight EK-601. According to Assistant Collector of Customs, Khizer Faiz, the passengers were found in possession of $40,000 USD which they had attempted to take out of Pakistan without the required legal declarations.
Investigation and Arrest
The suspects, who are Canadian citizens, were intercepted with the timely assistance of the Airport Security Force (ASF). Under the prevailing laws, any foreign currency exceeding the permitted limit must be declared to the authorities, a process the couple bypassed.
Current Status
Customs authorities have officially seized the undeclared currency and registered a formal case against the individuals. Further investigations are currently underway to determine the source of the funds and whether any larger smuggling network is involved.
