KARACHI: The Sindh High Court, led by Justice Umar Sial, has rejected the bail application of Muhammad Ali Hajano, a notorious member of the infamous “Corolla Gang,” ruling that no leniency can be shown to such a dangerous criminal who poses a grave threat to society. The case stems from an incident on October 25, 2025, near Habib University in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where the accused held a woman, Fatima Muti, and her husband at gunpoint while they were waiting in their car. After robbing her of cash, a gold chain, a Casio watch, and artificial earrings, the suspect attempted to flee. However, demonstrating exceptional presence of mind and bravery, the victim rammed her car into the robber’s motorcycle, knocking him down. This allowed nearby citizens and arriving Shara-e-Faisal police to apprehend him red-handed at the scene.
In its ruling, the court dismissed the suspect’s claims of mistaken identity, noting that he was caught on the spot with the stolen items and a pistol in his possession. The SHC further highlighted that Hajano is a dangerous repeat offender heavily involved in the past “White Corolla” cases, which involved the sexual assault and robbery of multiple women, making him a symbol of fear in Karachi. Commending the female victim’s courage, the court declared that individuals of such depraved character must remain incarcerated for the public’s safety. Consequently, the SHC directed the Prosecutor General of Sindh and the trial court to ensure the convict’s prior criminal record is fully presented during the trial in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure.
