KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, has officially banned all police officers across the province from participating in media activities—including TV/Radio programs, podcasts, digital media, and public forums—without obtaining prior written approval from the Central Police Office (CPO).
According to a circular issued by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Operations Bashir Brohi, this decisive measure was taken after it was observed that unauthorized media engagements by police officers were creating serious institutional challenges. The department noted that unregulated appearances frequently led to the misrepresentation of official police policies, caused contradictions in the department’s public stance, and increased the critical risk of unintentionally leaking sensitive operational or intelligence information.
To curb these issues, the CPO has established a strict approval protocol. Moving forward, any officer intending to engage with the media in an official capacity must submit a formal request through their respective head of formation to the IGP Sindh. This application must detail the exact purpose of the program, the media platform, the date and time, and the specific topics to be discussed. Even when permission is granted, officers are strictly mandated to confine their remarks to the approved agenda, with a complete prohibition on sharing details regarding ongoing investigations or active security operations.
This directive has been dispatched to all senior command, including Additional IGs, DIGs, and District SSPs across Karachi and interior Sindh. Supervisory officers have been instructed to ensure flawless implementation of these rules, with the warning that any violation will be treated as a serious disciplinary breach and will result in immediate departmental action.
