KARACHI: A new case of Mpox (monkeypox) has been confirmed in Karachi, with the virus spreading within a family in the Malir district. After a 42-year-old man tested positive recently, his 41-year-old wife has now also been diagnosed with the virus.
Current Status of the Patients
According to the Sindh Health Department, the husband has successfully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital. However, his wife began showing symptoms shortly after and has been admitted to a healthcare facility for treatment. Hospital sources have confirmed that the female patient is receiving all necessary medical care and, importantly, no symptoms of the virus have been detected in the couple’s children so far.
Rising Cases in the City
With this latest confirmation, the total number of Mpox cases in Karachi has reached four this year.
Health Department on Alert
In response to the local transmission of the virus, the Provincial Health Department has issued a high-alert across Sindh. Authorities have directed all medical facilities to tighten preventive measures and remain vigilant to curb further spread of the infection.
