Murder, Suicide, or Heavy Debt? New Details Emerge in Mir Raza Ali Case

KARACHI: Investigations are underway into the mysterious death of Mir Raza Ali, a young businessman and resident of PECHS, whose body was recovered from Gulistan-e-Jauhar. While authorities are probing both suicide and homicide angles, a clearer picture of his final hours and financial struggles has begun to surface through CCTV footage, digital evidence, and witness testimonies.

During his final movements on the night of July 28–29, Raza left his shop at Bahadurabad Chowrangi around 3:30 AM, taking a 30-bore pistol belonging to the security guard. He drove home but left behind his car, smartwatch, house keys, and PKR 39,000 before booking an online taxi to Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where he arrived around 4:28 AM. His communication breakdown was evident as his fiancée, who was in contact with him until 11:30 PM on July 28, received no response to her numerous calls and messages sent around 3:00 AM. Before leaving, Raza deleted all his social media accounts and transferred PKR 250,000 to his father’s account.

Regarding the recovery of his phone and weapon, Raza turned off his device near Johar Mor Hill Top at 4:22 AM and discarded it along the way; the phone was later recovered by police from three laborers working on University Road. Although the victim’s body was found, the missing 30-bore pistol has not been located, though a pistol holster was discovered nearby. Investigators revealed that Raza was managing a waffle business alongside a digital currency investment platform. Following major market losses starting in December 2025 and worsening by April, he accumulated massive debts ranging between PKR 50 million and 80 million, which included unreturned capital from an overseas friend. Additionally, CCTV footage from the crime scene showed an unidentified motorcycle lingering for about 22 seconds at 3:36 AM on July 29, leading investigators to suspect the body may have been dumped there.

While police continue to analyze CCTV footage, call records, and digital footprints to determine whether the incident was a planned murder or suicide, the victim’s parents staunchly maintain that their son did not take his own life, claiming instead that he was brutally tortured and targeted in a premeditated murder.
