KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards, Muhammad Ismail Rahu, conducted surprise visits to various examination centers in Karachi on Monday, leading to the recovery of a large number of mobile phones and cheating materials from candidates.
Major Irregularities Uncovered
During his visits to centers in Saddar and Lyari, the provincial minister expressed severe indignation over blatant violations of examination protocols. Candidates were found using mobile phones openly during the exam. At a center in Bahar Colony, the Minister personally checked answer scripts and discovered that multiple candidates had written identical, word-for-word answers, indicating a systematic cheating ring. Furthermore, Minister Rahu raised serious concerns over the illegal shifting of over 400 female students from 16 different schools to a single center in Bahar Colony.
Immediate Actions
Taking prompt action against the mismanagement, Muhammad Ismail Rahu issued the following directives: 1. Center Cancellation: The examination center at New Vision Grammar School in Lyari was ordered to be cancelled immediately after a massive amount of cheating material was recovered. 2. Inquiry Against Staff: The Minister directed the Chairman of the Matric Board to initiate strict action against the staff responsible for the illegal transfer of students and lack of supervision. 3. Loadshedding Complaints: Addressing complaints regarding electricity outages during exams, the Minister instructed the administration to ensure a comfortable environment for the students.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Talking to the media, Ismail Rahu sent a stern warning to those undermining the educational system:
“We will not allow anyone to play with the future of our students. Whether it is the staff or external elements involved in cheating, no one will be spared. The government will not compromise on corruption.”
He further urged students to avoid illegal practices, stating that cheating is “hollowing out” the foundations of the national education system. He reaffirmed that immediate legal action is being taken at all centers where malpractice is reported.
