KARACHI – Maryam Hanif Balwani, the CEO of the renowned textile brand Bonanza Satrangi, has been served a legal notice for allegedly sharing “insulting and provocative” content on social media regarding the death of Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
The Complaint
The notice was sent by senior advocate Shehryar Dilshad of Haider Law Associates on behalf of Bilawal Hussain Baloch, a resident of Karachi. According to the notice, the respondent allegedly shared a post on her social media account labeling the Iranian leader as an “enemy of Islam.” The complainant asserts that these remarks were made at a time when the Muslim Ummah was in mourning, causing deep emotional distress and hurting religious sentiments.
Legal Violations
The legal document highlights that such actions are a blatant violation of the law, specifically citing the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for inciting communal or sectarian hatred and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for the dissemination of offensive and inflammatory content online.
Demands and Deadline
The notice demands an unconditional public apology from the Bonanza Satrangi CEO to the complainant and the Muslim Ummah within 14 days, alongside the immediate removal of the controversial content.
Warning: Failure to comply within the stipulated time frame will result in the initiation of criminal and civil proceedings in relevant courts and law enforcement agencies, with the respondent held liable for all legal costs and damages.
